I’ve built up a certain amount of respect for the Finnish Army over the years. They deserve kudos for the Winter War and standing up to Stalin during WWII.
But now, all that respect that was hard earned by rugged men in the 1940’s…is instantly gone.
“A number of Finnish conscripts have been excused their full term of military service because they are addicted to the Internet, the Finnish Defence Forces says.”
Seriously Finland, you’re going to let these guys off the hook because they can’t live without their all-night EverQuest marathons? To be frank, I like the internet (I mean I like it a lot) but even I don’t support this.
In fact, a six month military conscription sounds exactly like what these guys need the most. Can you imagine what would have happened had Full Metal Jacket’s Matthew Modine told R. Lee Ermey that he couldn’t participate in drills because of his internet addiction? I can’t be sure, but I think his verbal response would have had something to do with a boot, swiftness, and one of Matthew’s personal areas.
